An Intimate Night in Celebration of Christmas and Fundraising for New Horizon Youth Centre
On the evening of Tuesday 18 December, our annual Christmas Choir Showcase took place at Kings Place in King’s Cross.
It was a highly anticipated event running for the third time. And even though it was raining outside, inside the auditorium, there was a palpable warmth and heart as over 120 guests came together to fundraise for New Horizon Youth Centre.
The rumours proved true as Father Christmas was present to welcome all attendees and introduce them to the wonderful singers from the choirs in our local area.
The Christmas Choir Showcase was launched by The Guardian’s choir, aptly named The Guardian Angels. They started the showcase with a beautiful harmony of In the Bleak Midwinter, followed by White Christmas and ending with We Wish You A Merry Christmas, which we could hear several members of the audience humming along to, ourselves included!
The second choir of the night was Springer Nature’s choir who sang a dreamy rendition of Sea Lullaby. You could hear a pin drop as everyone listened in rapt silence to their beautiful rendition. Finally, a beautifully led soprano of Ding Dong Merrily on High brought the Christmas cheer and it was great to see the effect it had on the smiling faces of attendees.
Before the break, the GOSH Choir, Great Ormond Street Hospital’s choir launched their session with Carol of the Bells which was met with a round of applause at the end. A wonderful harmony of Higher Love followed. Love is what Christmas is all about after all, and the GOSH choir didn’t spare us the sentiment.
After a break for delicious mince pies and mulled wine, our hosts graced us with their presence. Kings Place choir took to the stage and let us know they were ready to enchant us with their vocals. We must say we took special delight indulging our ears with the rich baritone of their choir members. They sang My Little Man, A Boy Was Born and Love Yourself, a brilliant cover of Justin Bieber’s track which ended their session.
Finally, Father Christmas returned and urged everyone to stand and sing along to Let It Snow. The atmosphere was splendid and the spinning silver disco light was a wonderful touch, dazzling everyone in the room and made it a fitting end to a truly special evening. The fact that all our guests were in attendance for the great cause of donating funds to the New Horizon Youth Centre was the festive icing on top of another successful Urban Partners event.
We’re pleased to announce that this year’s Christmas Choir Showcase achieved a record number of tickets sales in comparison to previous years.
This was our last event of the year and we want to say a big thank you to everyone that attended. The spirit of Christmas was really felt by all!
We can’t wait till next year’s showcase! See you all in 2019 and we wish you a Merry Christmas from all at Urban Partners.
