Destination Next – Ideas for a sustainable, safe and socially inclusive future
The last decade has seen extraordinary changes in the areas around King’s Cross, Euston and St Pancras. But what has been the wider impact on the local environment and communities?
Destination Next was a half day conference to explore the social and environmental sustainability of the area, convened by Urban Partners, the business partnership for the King’s Cross, Euston and St Pancras. Over 140 leaders from business, community partners and sustainability experts came together to hear the important issues in how development projects and incoming businesses can work to have positive impacts on the local communities and environment, the lessons that can be learnt for future development of this area of London and how these can be applied to other urban areas.
Destination Next included keynote addresses and panels discussions from leading figures in local businesses and the wider community. The conference took place from on Friday 16 November at King Place and was followed by a networking lunch.
The cost to attend the conference and the networking lunch was:
£50 + VAT General Admission
£40 + VAT Urban Partners Members
The conference focused on both the social and environmental sustainability of the King’s Cross, Euston and St Pancras area, as well as on the importance of strong engagement amongst local businesses.
King’s Cross and the surrounding area has changed enormously in the past 20 years, and with future developments planned across the wider area, the next 20 years are set to be just as transformative.
This is why this was the perfect time to host this event, so that lessons from the redevelopment of this area can be learned both to ensure continued positive impacts on the local community around Euston, St Pancras and King’s Cross, and to deliver successful planning and transformation in similar major projects. The conference was our Hero Project for 2018 and will help shape our work and activities in 2019. We identified the priorities for the area in order to maintain the thriving neighbourhood we all know today and where we, as Urban Partners, should be focusing our efforts.
