In January we welcomed a record number of attendees to our Annual Review at Google to celebrate our achievements in 2019…
Last year at Urban Partners we continued promoting our Wellbeing Walk, an alternative route to Euston Road with 63% less pollution. The Homework Club, hosted by Eurostar, LNER and Springer Nature ran throughout the academic year, providing local school students with somewhere to study and learn, and with tutors who support them and help them work towards a successful future. Our Youth Career Expo introduced local youth to businesses and opportunities in the area, whilst our Homelessness Alliance came together to help tackle issues of poverty in the area, with businesses and charities gaining insight from and aiding one another.
We also put on a number of brilliant events for local employees, such as the Christmas Choir Showcase which saw local business and charity choirs come together to help us raise money for New Horizon Youth Centre and get in the Christmas spirit! We have also run regular networking events in collaboration with local businesses such as Searcys and The Lighterman. We worked closely with Camden Giving to promote volunteering opportunities in the area. In the summer we took to the streets of King’s Cross with Small Green Shoots to bring you UPShoots, free live music events from emerging artists, and when the winter rolled around we teamed up with Maria Fidelis’ sixth form to collect clothes and toiletries for local homeless.
Our Annual Review celebrated the wonderful work we’ve been a part of over the past year. The welcome speech from our Chair, Wendy Spinks, highlighted the changes we’ve seen in the area and those that we hope to make in 2020. Grace Coffey from Camden Giving took to the stage as she spoke about our partnership and the volunteering opportunities in the area. This was followed by the winners of our Gatsby Business Challenge, Regent High and the Small Green Shoots, who took part in UPShoots last summer. They shared their experience of workshops with member businesses and how they organised the event. Leon Jacques, an act from our UPShoots sessions, closed the evening with a bang, as we got up and danced to some throwback tunes and his original music in anticipation of his album release.
Thank you to everyone who came to our 2019 Annual Review, we’re looking forward to another successful year at Urban Partners.
